The needs of companies for trained personnel are diverse but employers come together in seeing that a statistically literate employee is likely to add value to the enterprise, whatever the specific job they do. So we are working with firms, the Confederation of British Industry, sector skills councils and sector organisations to secure employer agreement to a declaration identifying statistical literacy as a principal qualification for 21st employment.
We are promoting the audit tools developed by the RSS Centre for Statistical Education to help employers assess the statistical capacity of their staff. As debate about the capacity and quality of boards and directors unfold to promote board-level numerical skills we will be finding case studies and examples of the ‘numerate board’.
