Statistics 2013, aka the International Year of Statistics is a celebratory initiative supported by nearly 2,000 organizations including the Royal Statistical Society (RSS). The RSS-getstats campaign particularly supports Statistics 2013′s objective to increase public awareness of the power and impact of statistics on all aspects of society.

Data are everywhere and a world without statistics is unimaginable.  Whilst we certainly can’t take numbers, data and statistics out of our everyday experiences in order to show you the consequences (nor would we want to as they are vital to pretty much everything), through the Statistics 2013 initiative we can bring the numbers, data and statistical content in our lives centre stage to make us all more conscious of their value.

Statistics are data that have been processed so that they can be useful.  Put simply, they are information which is central to the structure and infrastructure of our lives and our decision-making. We need statistical know-how to make good choices for ourselves, our businesses, our political system…The work of statisticians and others who use data underpins our day-to-day lives: everything from the quality and supply of our food and water, to communications, travel, work and the technological and medical advances which make our world what it is.

Please play your part in getting the message out. Tell others about the Statistics 2013 initiative and share your views with getstats on the impact statistics have on your life.
